Obey The Chunk

January 27, 2006

We got home today from kind-of-work and the first thing we stumbled upon was this sweet gif-animation that brought back many nostalgic childhood memories.
(no gif-animations in blogspot? CLICK HERE to see it play, please do or you’re missing out on funny stuff)

All the Goonies-fans in the house get a bright golden star from Grandmaw Dolores.
We started thinking back of all the kids that starred in that film. The only ones we could remember were Corey Feldman, Indiana Jone’s Short Round, a cute red-head and Chunk the chubby kid. But where are they now? And what do they look like in 2006? The ever-helpful folks at imdb helped us out of our misery.
We found out that Chunk ain’t that chunky no more, that Short Round is doing hollywoodian martial arts choreography, that one of the kids went on to become a hobbit and that even Josh Brolin was a Goonie. Also Sloth, or at least the 6′8″ football-player who embodied him, passed away due to heart failure four years after they wrapped the film. But what we forgot all about, was that the little red-head was played by Kerri Green, who also starred next to Corey Haim in one of our other beloved 80’s childhood movies: Lucas. We remember having the biggest crush on her in that film, that by the way also featured very young versions of Charlie Sheen, Courtney Thorne-Smith (yes THE Courtney Thorne-Smith) and was the debut-film for Wynona Ryder, who we later developed a crush upon, but that’s for a different post.
As a bonus, we searched and found some of these great wav’s from the Goonies movie, delivered by the Chunk-meister himself, cuz he truely had the best lines. Those who got the remixing, mash-upping skillz, please, don’t hold back and say hi to Spielberg’s lawyers from us.

If you’d like some more, or have trouble understanding some of the words go to this page right here.
And I know I’m at least a month late with this, but still, Happy 20th B-Day Goonies!

[NOTE] Before anyone says anything, yes we are aware that Miss Kerri Green in her Lucas-days resembles Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame alot. No we will not tolerate any jokes or quiffs about this in the comments. Any Corey Feldman/Haim anecdotes, however, are welcome as always.

This was a penn.
Chris Penn, brother of Sean & Michael Penn, left the building yesterday. No details to be found however in which circumstances he passed away.

Rest in peace, Nicky Dimes.

Two things we’d like to say in this post.
1) YouTube is fantastic. The quantity makes up for the poor quality.
2) Dakota Fanning is scary (pictured above on the right, the one w/o the teeth). She’s the little starlette of such blockbusting features like Man On Fire, War o/t Worlds and stinker Cat i/t Hat. She will not follow in Drew Barrymore’s footsteps, we have been told. And she still manages to scare the bejeezus outta us. Hence next clip with something else that scares the good lord right back on the cross: Japanese fan boys.

JAPANESE DAKOTA INTERVIEW CLIP

Screenhead even said it better for this clip:

“Oh, sure— when the high school age boy from Dakota Fanning’s Japanese fan club with the broken English gets the chance to interview her for television and freaks out from desire it’s all “cute,” but when we do it we have to announce ourselves to the neighbors when we move somewhere new.”

"Sound a little excited, Gene" -"Sound less excited, Roger"

The late Siskel & still present Ebert. For years they thumbed films up and down. Had different tastes but always found middle ground. Thruth is, in the beginning, they couldn’t stand eachother one bit. Proof of this linked right here on the YouTube (which gets two thumbs up from noctos & dolores for being a user friendly player). It shows the two of them bickering and pestering eachother while taping promo’s for their show back in the day. Classic Stuff, enjoy!

“That’s this week on Siskel and Ebert and The Movies. And the asshole. And that’s Roger.”

This year all the shortfilms screened at the Sundance Film Festival will be shown online on the official site, live from the state that bans films for no apparent reason.

Best Viral of 2006

January 9, 2006

It’s just plain weird and I’m not sure if it’s just a guy having fun (and quite professional fun) with the photoshop, or a new viral for Burger King. So anyway, click here for some paparrazi pics of Brooke Burke & The Burger King.

Pic 1, Pic2 and Pic3.

[update] some live action footage right here.

With sadness in our hearts…

… we would like to inform you that we at daily dolores want to bury the hatchet because our good friends at VX have waved the white flag, all because we can’t win from the hardworking poodles at LPF. Read more about it on the website that was created to report on said War.

And Then They Had This To Say

December 8, 2005

* WHY?. elephant eyelash. (Anticon/Southern)
rnk: look, mom, Why? can be all Hymie even when he’s not hanging out with Fog! his/their psych-folk-blues-hop is so far away from any ghetto standard, it’s like seeing Biggie hang out with John Lennon in a non-earthly place. 7,5/10
Seven: Pavement took a strong LSD trip and got rid of their curderoy for oversized t-shirts. Then they jammed the night away conducted by Hayao Miyazaki. 8,75/10

* ANIMAL COLLECTIVE. feels. (Fat Cat)
rnk: your updated version of the Bremer Stadsmusikanten “Feels” like having an anticon-ant on top, the only question remaining about their broken songs is why they love to push the treble-button so much. maybe the Lonesome Organist came and took the bass away. 6/10

* BLOCKHEAD. downtown science. (Ninja Tune)
Seven: The production is punchy, the beats live next door to early Shadow, so everything should be fine. But could you please get rid of these high pitched vocals next time? 7/10
rnk: Blockhead probably left his cave like Weird Al does in UHF. back in the downtown zone, he borrowed some styles from Shadow, in order to make sure you don’t think he’s Diplo, or RJ, or EL-P, or some other post-Hop dude. 8,5/10

* SOLID STEEL compilation by bonobo (Ninja Tune)
Seven: Around six years ago, I invited Simon “Bonobo” Green over to Berlin in order to spin with us at the WMF and it was his first night ever to deejay in front of an audience. It was all good but compared to his latest mix, it was pretty amateurish. Damn, this monkey has evolved. 8,5/10
rnk: if Kerouac was still around today, he’d be listening to Bonobo mixes while On The Road. with the new tracks “recurring” and “change down”, Simon proves he’s still the master of sleazy’n beat-busting dreamscapes. 9/10

* JAN JELINEK. kosmischer pitch (Scape)
Seven: Man, it was about time for a new album, wasn’t it?! And what a brilliant one it is. Jelinek had to drift into the wide open space to find the cosmic pitch, a place with no time zones and no barriers. Welcome to the first convincing Minimalkrautpsych record ever. 8,5/10
